Home Wireless Network: Build a home wireless network

Once the requirements for a building a home wireless network have been determined, it is possible to build a home wireless network. The first step is to usually connect the router to a computer via an Ethernet cable and configure it. Once this is done it can be plugged into an Internet modem or a cable/phone line if it has its own built in modem. After powering up the router will perform a sequence of tests and confirm success via a series of status lights.

The next step is to install wireless access cards or adaptors for each laptop or computer. For some of these devices it is necessary to install the software and drivers beforehand, so it is wise to consult the manufacturer’s documentation first. After this the computer must be setup to communicate with the wireless router. This is done by keying information such as the router name, access speed and username and password. The computer will then try to locate and connect with the wireless router.
