Home Wireless Network: Computer security

There are many steps to securing a home network. One of these is computer security. Computer security is a vital requirement of any home network. It is important because a secured network ensures intruders and viruses are kept out. Computers can be secured by a variety of methods.

Many home routers come with built in firewalls. Adding a software firewall can add an extra layer of security, but is essential for users who’s network does not have a built in firewall. Firewalls control program access to the network and the Internet, and prevent outsider attackers from hacking into the computers on a network.

Adding spam and pop-up blockers to a user’s computer will keep out unwanted emails and website adverts. Antivirus software is essential for keeping computer viruses and trojans out of the network. It is important to keep such software up to date by regularly using the update feature built in to such products.
